Amman, Sept. 29 (Petra) — Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni and
his Egyptian counterpart, Counselor Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif,
discussed ways to expand cooperation in legal and judicial affairs
and strengthen the exchange of expertise and experience in developing
the justice system.

The talks took place on the sidelines of Talhouni’s participation in
the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal
Justice, being held in Abu Dhabi.

The two ministers reviewed areas of mutual interest, including
updating legislation and judicial procedures, advancing the digital
transformation of justice services, and making greater use of modern
technologies to improve the efficiency of the justice system and make
legal and judicial services more accessible.

According to a Justice Ministry statement issued Tuesday, the
discussions also covered closer coordination in addressing emerging
and cross-border crimes, as well as sharing expertise and best
practices in crime prevention and criminal justice.

The two sides also agreed on the importance of maintaining
coordination and cooperation at relevant international conferences
and forums.

Talhouni and El-Sherif expressed their commitment to continuing
efforts to strengthen ties between the two justice ministries in ways
that uphold the rule of law and advance their shared interests. They
also underscored the strong relations between Jordan and Egypt.

Talhouni is attending the congress, which Abu Dhabi is hosting from
Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, alongside ministers, government officials, judges
and experts from around the world.

The congress is addressing current and emerging challenges in crime
prevention and criminal justice, while promoting the rule of law and
strengthening international cooperation.
