Amman, June 9 (Petra) – Jordanian and Iraqi MPs on Tuesday discussed
ties and the need to build on existing cooperation to expand the
strategic partnership between the two countries.

The remarks came during a meeting between the Jordanian Parliamentary
Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Haitham Ziyadin, and a
delegation from the Iraqi Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee
headed by Mustafa Kubaisi.

According to a committee statement, Ziyadin said that Iraq’s
stability enhances opportunities for cooperation and that the Kingdom
is Jordan is committed to supporting Iraq.

He called for joint strategic projects, particularly the electricity
interconnection project, describing it as a key initiative for
strengthening energy security, supporting economic development and
advancing Arab integration.

Jordanian committee members called for building on existing projects
and developing parliamentary and economic cooperation.

For his part, Kubaisi said the visit reflects the two countries’
commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and deepening
relations.

He praised the success of the electricity interconnection project and
ongoing cooperation in border areas.

Kubaisi called for expanding collaboration in trade, investment,
energy and civil aviation, while commending the strong reputation of
Jordan’s health and education sectors among Iraqis.

He urged facilitating medical visa procedures, saying such measures
would boost economic, tourism and healthcare cooperation between the
two countries.
