Cairo, June 20 (Petra) – Jordan joined the 111th session of the
Committee on Educational Programmes for Arab Students in the Occupied
Arab Territories, which opened at the League of Arab States offices
in Cairo under the chairmanship of Palestine and will continue for
four days.

Representing Jordan, Alaa Zyoud, Media and Cultural Advisor at the
Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the Arab League, outlined the
Kingdom’s efforts to support Palestinian students and safeguard their
right to education.

He discussed Jordan’s initiatives in the Palestinian Territories, its
support for Palestinian students in Jordan and its continued backing
of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
(UNRWA).

Zyoud reviewed a range of educational and training initiatives
implemented through the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher
Education and Scientific Research and other national institutions.

These efforts include the launch of e-learning platforms, most
notably the “Wise School” platform, developed in cooperation with the
World Islamic Sciences and Education University, which has benefited
approximately 1.3 million students in the Gaza Strip and the West
Bank.

He discussed training programmes organised by the Ministry of
Education in partnership with the Jerusalem Cultural Forum, aimed at
enhancing the capacities of teachers and educational supervisors in
addressing issues related to Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque.

At the higher education level, Zyoud discussed Jordan’s support
through royal scholarships and initiatives that expand educational
opportunities for Palestinian students, in addition to facilitating
the admission of students from within the Green Line to Jordanian
universities.

The session was opened by Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the
Arab League, Ambassador Muhannad Aklouk and Assistant
Secretary-General of the League and Head of the Palestine and
Occupied Arab Territories Sector, Ambassador Faed Mustafa.

Participants praised Jordan’s efforts and the consistent support of
its Hashemite leadership for the Palestinian people, particularly in
the field of education.

The committee called on the international community to take action to
halt what it described as the “educational genocide” affecting the
education sector in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

It called for rebuilding schools, universities and libraries,
providing international protection for educational institutions and
ensuring Palestinian students’ access to safe and uninterrupted
education.

The committee recommended launching joint Arab initiatives to address
learning loss among Palestinian students, expanding psychosocial
support programs for children affected by the war and establishing a
digital platform for Palestine Radio in cooperation with the Arab
States Broadcasting Union to support e-learning, nurture student
talent and preserve Palestinian national and cultural identity.
