Amman, June 15 (Petra) — Jordanian refereeing made its first-ever
appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Monday, with an
all-Jordanian officiating team taking charge of the match between
Spain and Cape Verde in Group H.
International referee Adham Makhadmeh officiated the match, becoming
the first Jordanian referee to serve as the main referee in a World
Cup fixture. He was assisted by Mohammad Bakar and Ahmad Al-Ruwaili.
The match, played at Atlanta Stadium as part of the opening round of
Group H, ended in a goalless draw.
The appointment marks a historic milestone for Jordanian refereeing
on the global stage and reflects the confidence placed in Jordanian
match officials by the governing body of world football.
