Khartoum (SUNA) –Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Head of the Legal Sector, Ali Khadir, praised the significant efforts made by the committee preparing Sudan’s Fourth National Report and its commitment to involving all stakeholders in consultations on the report. He made the remarks while addressing a consultative workshop to discuss Sudan’s Fourth National Report, which is scheduled for submission to the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism. Khadir said the consultative workshop, held in cooperation with the National Human Rights Commission and civil society organisations, reflected the participatory approach that the authorities believe is the best way to promote and protect human rights in Sudan. “The report we are discussing today, Monday, at this workshop constitutes an essential contribution to the official national efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Justice, represented by the National Human Rights Mechanism and the Ministry’s Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Directorate, which plays a pivotal role in fulfilling international obligations towards human rights mechanisms,” he said. He added that assessments and observations from participants would serve as a mirror reflecting realities transparently and honestly and help build on achievements already made. Khadir explained that the participatory and consultative approach involving the National Human Rights Commission and civil society partners represented a complementary partnership aimed at preserving human dignity and ensuring that everyone enjoys civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights without discrimination.BH/BH
