Lebanese President reaffirms commitment to ending Israeli occupation, restoring full sovereignty

Beirut, June 23 (Petra) – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed
that Lebanon will accept nothing less than an end to the Israeli
occupation and the elimination of all forms of foreign tutelage.

Aoun said that the country’s only choice is full national sovereignty
under the authority of the Lebanese state.

Chairing a meeting on the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in
Washington, Aoun said recent developments had validated Lebanon’s
decision to pursue negotiations as the only internationally
recognised path to achieving national objectives and restoring its
rights.

He said that a new round of talks is underway and would continue over
the coming days, expressing hope that the negotiations will yield
decisive results that serve Lebanon’s interests and those of its
people.

Aoun said Lebanon’s goal is to restore full sovereignty over its
entire territory and extend the authority of the state across all
parts of the country, adding that the Lebanese state remains the sole
guarantor of national stability and sovereignty.
