Livestock Ministry Undersecretary Commends Red Cross Support for Veterinary Sector

 KHARTOUM, July 23, 2026 (SUNA) – Undersecretary of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris praised the valuable support that the Red Cross Society has provided to the livestock sector in various areas, affirming the ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with international organizations to develop veterinary infrastructure and improve services provided to livestock keepers. The remarks were made during his meeting with a Red Cross Society delegation led by Dr. Edia. The meeting discussed ways to support veterinary laboratories in Sudan, particularly the Veterinary Research Laboratory in Soba and the ELISA Laboratory at the ministry’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Following the meeting, the Red Cross delegation conducted a field visit to the ministry’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where it received a detailed briefing from Director General of the General Directorate of Animal Health and Epidemic Control Dr. Nadia Al-Dirdeeri on the technical requirements needed to operate the ELISA laboratory and diagnostic equipment, as well as the needs of the hospital’s treatment units and minor and major operating theatres. During the visit, the delegation underscored the importance of supporting the hospital laboratory’s requirements and expressed the Red Cross’s readiness to coordinate and work jointly with the ministry and other supporting organizations in this field, contributing to improved veterinary diagnostic capacity and reducing the spread of animal diseases. Both sides affirmed their commitment to continued technical cooperation and providing the necessary support to develop veterinary personnel and modernize laboratories, considering this an essential step toward achieving biosecurity and supporting livestock exports.BH/BH
