Charity Used Book Fair Begins

Muscat,
1 July 2026 (ONA) — The 14th annual “Medad” charity used book fair
opened today and will continue until 5 July.

The
fair, organized by Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), is held at the Active Oman
Center at the Oman Automobile Association. It aims to support community and
charitable initiatives, encourage community members to acquire and benefit from
used books, and spread the culture of reading.

The
exhibition features more than 9,000 books in both Arabic and English, covering
a variety of topics including literature, culture, science, self-development,
academic books, and children’s books, thereby meeting the interests of various
categories of readers.

Dr.
Said Ahmed Al Riyami, Dean of the College of Economics and Political Science at
Sultan Qaboos University, stated to Oman News Agency that the “Medad”
charity used book fair has become an annual initiative that embodies the
college’s commitment to spreading knowledge, enhancing the culture of reading,
and serving the community by making books available and recirculating them
among readers.

He
expressed his anticipation that the exhibition would witness a wide turnout
from students, university affiliates, and members of the community, and that it
would continue to achieve its goals in supporting purposeful community
initiatives.

For
his part, Ali Khalid Al Darmaki, Head of the Management Group at the College of
Economics and Political Science, said that the “Medad” charity book
fair comes as an embodiment of our mission to serve the community, instill
values of giving and solidarity in the hearts of our youth, promote the culture
of a circular economy, and reduce waste in society.

He
explained that the exhibition aims to spread culture and knowledge among
students and the local community, with all profits generated being directed
toward supporting orphans, meeting their educational and living needs, and
bringing smiles to their faces.
