“At the start of 2024, the main tourism sector indicators (arrivals and overnight stays) continue to gain momentum. Indeed, the flow of arrivals to the destination ‘Morocco’ strengthened by 12.8% at the end of the first quarter of 2024, driven by the performances of March, February and January 2024 (+10.2%, +17.9% and +10.4% respectively),” said the DEPF in its recent business report.
Compared with the first quarter of 2019, the volume of arrivals in Morocco has consolidated by 31.6%, the DEPF reports, adding that the volume of overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments rose by 7.3%, in annual variation, at the end of the first two months of 2024, driven by an 11% increase in overnight stays by non-residents, alleviated by a 1% fall in overnight stays by residents.
Compared with the end of February 2019, these overnight stays firmed up by 11.1%, following an increase of 10.7% at the end of January 2024 and 3.6% at the end of February 2023.
Tourism receipts were down 6.7% year-on-year at the end of February 2024, following a 10.5% decline one month earlier, but they remain significantly higher (+40.4%) than their pre-crisis level.
