Nairobi: African Summit on Fertilizers, Soil Health Kicks Off with Moroccan Participation

The Kingdom’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, is representing HM King Mohammed VI at the Summit, which is set to focus on the Nairobi Declaration on Fertilizers and Soil Health in Africa.

The Moroccan delegation comprises Ambassador Mohamed Methqal, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the African Union (AU) and UNECA, and Ambassador to Kenya Abderrazzak Laassel.

Co-organized by the African Union and the Kenyan government, the Summit sought to underline the crucial role of fertilizers and soil health in stimulating sustainable and pro-poor growth in African agriculture.

Alongside the Nairobi Declaration, the event is expected to culminate in the adoption of a Ten-Year Action Plan containing concrete recommendations for action over the next ten years, together with a framework for the Soil Initiative for Africa.

The Summit will offer a holistic review of the state of soil health in Africa, and suggest means of adjusting the strategies being deployed to enhance soil productivity, for higher and more sustainable outputs, at the service of the African citizen.

The African Summit on Fertilizers and Soil Health kicked off on Thursday in Nairobi with the participation of Morocco.
