Youth Basketball Team Begins Gulf Asia Cup Qualifiers Campaign

Doha,
14 July 2026 (ONA) — The National Youth (U-18) Basketball Team will begin its
campaign in the Gulf region qualifiers for the Asia Cup next Friday by facing
the Kuwaiti team.

The
qualifiers, hosted by the State of Qatar from 17-22 July, feature the
participation of the national teams of the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

The
national team looks forward to delivering outstanding performances that reflect
the development of Omani basketball, and to competing for one of the qualifying
berths for the U-18 Asia Cup finals.

The
national team will play its second match against Bahrain on 19 July, then meet
Qatar on 21 July, before concluding its matches by facing the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia on 22 July.

The
national team completed its preparations to participate in these qualifiers by
holding an external training camp in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of the
final phase of its preparatory program.

The
camp featured an intensive training program focusing on technical, physical,
and tactical aspects, in addition to playing five friendly matches against
Bahraini clubs. This aimed to raise the players’ readiness, enhance cohesion
among them, assess the team’s overall level, and address technical aspects
before the start of the qualifiers.
