Kathmandu, August 30 (QNA) – Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Sunday announced that the death toll from landslides and floods has risen to 781, while search efforts continue for 2,502 people reported missing.
The Nepal Tourism Board said contact has been lost with 591 foreign nationals, while 289 others have been rescued. Authorities have also established contact with five people, including three Spaniards, an American, and a Belgian.
Rescue teams continue their search for the 2,502 missing people, including 933 workers involved in a hydropower project.
Thirty-seven trucks and seven helicopters are being used to distribute food and non-food supplies, while specialized surgical medical teams have been deployed to the affected areas.
Flash floods and mudslides swept through areas along the border between Nepal and China’s Tibet region on Wednesday, destroying villages and causing extensive damage to roads and infrastructure. (QNA)
