Oman Hosts 4th Meeting of ITU Digital Innovation
Board
Muscat, 11 October 2026 (ONA) — The
Sultanate of Oman is hosting the 4th meeting of the Digital
Innovation Board, an affiliate of the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development” of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The three-day meeting kicked off in
Muscat today.
Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani,
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information
Technology for Communications and Information Technology, said that the
Sultanate of Oman has embarked on a drive to develop its own digital economy
roadmap.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Al
Shidhani expressed the hope that the event would help generate new
opportunities for digital innovation, establish new partnerships and pave the
way for new projects of interest to all stakeholders in the digital innovation and
digital economy sectors.
For his part, Eng. Omar Hamdan Al Ismaili,
CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), said that
hosting this meeting reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s keenness to consolidate its
presence in international dialogues with a view to the future of innovation and
digital transformation. He added that the meeting also serves to showcase
national experiences and initiatives and expand cooperation with international
partners in field of developing innovation and entrepreneurship systems—a step
forward in the realization of digital economy objectives and Oman Vision 2040.
Al Ismaili highlighted the TRA’s
investment in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, emerging technologies
and national capacity building.
Meanwhile, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), said that the ITU
lays emphasis on on bridging the digital divide and accelerating digital
transformation, with innovation serving as a cross-cutting theme across all related
sectors.
