National Volleyball Team Achieves Its Highest World Ranking

Muscat,
21 July 2026 (ONA) — Oman national men’s senior volleyball team recorded its
best-ever world ranking by reaching 69th globally, in an achievement that
reflects the extent of development witnessed by Omani volleyball in recent
years and underscores its growing presence on the continental and international
stages.

This
achievement comes as the culmination of continuous technical and administrative
efforts, placing the national team on the threshold of a new and more ambitious
phase. This is particularly evident as it nears a qualitative leap in the
global rankings should it win the West Asian Championship for National Teams,
which would boost its chances of advancing into the top 50 teams worldwide—a
goal now closer than ever.

The
national team has also succeeded in qualifying for the Continental Championship
hosted by Japan, joining the elite major Asian teams participating in this
important event, which carries high sporting stakes given the opportunities it
offers to qualify for key global championships in the coming years. The
tournament holds exceptional importance, as the champion will secure direct and
official qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games—an accomplishment
that would mark a first of its kind for Omani volleyball if achieved—while the
top three teams will guarantee direct spots in the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s
World Championship scheduled to take place in the Philippines.

The
national team’s reach to this advanced stage confirms that Omani volleyball is
moving with confident steps toward consolidating its position among the major Asian
teams. Having achieved remarkable results during its recent appearances, which
directly reflected on its world ranking and level of technical performance, the
team has transformed from a competitor seeking to establish its presence into
one that commands respect at the continental level.
