Astana,
9 June 2026 (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman participated in the opening of the 3rd
Conference of Archivists, hosted by the city of Astana in the Republic of
Kazakhstan from 8-12 June, with a wide participation of archival institutions,
experts, and specialists from various countries around the world.
The
delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the conference was headed by Dr. Hamad Mohammed
Al Dhawyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority.
The
conference is organized in cooperation with and the support of a number of
international organizations and institutions concerned with documentary memory
and archival heritage, including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Council on Archives (ICA),
and international partners supporting digital archive themes and the
development of modern archival practices.
The
organization of the conference this year comes under the title “Digital
Archive Exhibition,” serving as an international platform for dialogue and
the exchange of expertise on the future of archives in light of digital
transformation and artificial intelligence applications.
The
conference proceedings discussed a number of pivotal topics, including the
digital archive, the employment of artificial intelligence in the archival
sector, the development of archival infrastructure, the ethics of using modern
technologies, the sustainability of digital preservation, and the exchange of
best practices among archival institutions at the regional and international
levels.
The
participation of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Records and
Archives Authority, in this conference comes within the framework of its
keenness to enhance its presence in specialized international platforms, review
global experiences in the field of digital archiving, and explore cooperation
opportunities with international archival institutions, thereby contributing to
supporting the authority’s efforts in preserving the Omani national memory and
developing the archival work environment according to the latest professional
standards and practices.
