Prime Minister receives UAE’s Masdar CEO over energy cooperation, projects

Amman, June 14 (Petra) – Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan on Sunday
received CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), Mohammad
Al-Ramahi, at his office in Prime Ministry headquarters.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh and
Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh attended the
meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides affirmed “strength” of the
Jordanian-Emirati partnership in implementing and expanding major
strategic projects across various sectors.

This collaboration covers renewable energy projects, such as
Baynounah Solar Power Plant, the largest solar power project in the
Kingdom, with a production capacity of 200 megawatts, and Tafila Wind
Farm, which Masdar holds a 50% stake.

Talks also discussed new projects being implemented by Masdar in the
Kingdom, mainly development of wind energy projects with a total
capacity of 2,000 megawatts.

Technical studies for these enterprises are currently being finalized
in preparation for implementation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister commended Masdar’s initiative to
provide a grant for the construction of a 25-megawatt wind power
plant in Batn al-Ghul area of Ma’an Governorate.

The PM said the project would increase contribution of renewable
energy to the national energy mix.

The project’s agreement was signed last February, as Prime Minister
said this initiative reflects the “deep-rooted brotherly”
Jordanian-UAE relations.

For his part, Al-Ramahi affirmed the company’s commitment to
strengthening its projects in the Kingdom and expanding its
partnerships and investments by implementing more renewable energy
projects, which would contribute to Jordan’s development efforts.
