Amman, June 22 (Petra) – At least 13 workers were killed following an
explosion at Qatar’s Barzan Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant on
Sunday night, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Kaabi
said on Monday.

Initial findings indicate the incident was accidental and not the
result of sabotage or deliberate action, Kaabi said. He added that a
full investigation has been launched into the incident.

The victims were Indian and Pakistani nationals, the minister said.
66 people were injured, including Qataris and citizens of India,
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria and Nepal, he
said, adding that none of the injured are in critical or
life-threatening condition.

The explosion occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the facility, Kaabi said.
The plant had been shut since December 2025 for maintenance and only
resumed operations two days before the blast.

Emergency response teams from QatarEnergy, working alongside Civil
Defense authorities, brought the fire under control, according to
Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Kaabi said that the incident has not disrupted LNG production or
exports, nor affected operations at Ras Laffan Port or other energy
facilities. Domestic and international supply commitments, he said,
remain fully intact.

There are no indications of environmental hazards or leaks, the
minister said, adding that monitoring systems detected no threats to
surrounding areas.

Kaabi said QatarEnergy is committed to transparency and announced
that the findings will be released once the investigation is
complete.
