Qatar Says Technical Cooperation, Capacity-Building Matter Most in Human Rights

Doha, October 05 (QNA) – The State of Qatar has underscored that it places significant priority on technical cooperation and capacity-building as part of its cooperation with the United Nations and its human rights mechanisms, particularly the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

This came in a statement delivered Monday by Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansouri, during his participation in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity-building under agenda item 10, held as part of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The State of Qatar has pursued its strategic partnership with the United Nations and its various bodies by providing multiple kinds of support that have helped improve the human rights situation in several critical fields, Al Mansouri underscored, emphasizing that this partnership remains ongoing through the work of the Doha-based United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre.

Al Mansouri highlighted that, given that the challenges facing numerous countries today exceed their individual capabilities, providing technical assistance and helping nations strengthen their capacities in the area of human rights, based on their willingness and priorities, national specificities and key needs, matter most to enable those nations to live up to their human rights obligations, following consultation with them.

In addition, Al Mansouri stressed that the State of Qatar considers it very important to give equal and overriding priority to all human rights, including political, civil, socioeconomic and cultural rights, as well as the right to development.

He underscored that the State of Qatar reemphasizes the importance of international cooperation through the exchange of good practices, knowledge transfer and capitalizing on scientific and technological advancements, in addition to supporting nations in bridging the digital gap to enhance the universality of human rights.
