Amman, July 18 (Petra) – The Aqaba Container Port Company on Saturday
reported strong operational performance in the first half of the
year, driven by operational excellence and commercial growth, along
with a commitment to highest health and safety standards, and ongoing
sustainability and community development efforts.

In a press release, the company said it recorded a total handling
volume of 472,680 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit), the global
standard for measuring shipping capacity and terminal throughput,
compared to 468,062 TEU in the same period in 2025, while the volume
of transit goods reached 36,412 TEU, with an increase of 177 percent,
compared to 13,143 TEU during the first half of 2025.

There were 188,927 entry and exit movements of trucks through the
gates, compared to 182,490 during the first half of 2025, a sign of
continued efficiency of the flow of goods through the supply chain,
it said.

The company handled 8 ships, each of which exceeded 5,000 TEU,
including one that handled 10,884 TEU, the highest container handling
volume among the ships at the container port. The container port also
received the Kota Odyssey, an advanced 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel
container vessel of Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL), on
its maiden visit to the Kingdom.

The Container Port Company enhanced its position as a regional hub
for Ship-to-ship (STS) transshipment, or “aqtarma,” by handling 4,412
TEU of transshipment containers, in response to rapid changes in
regional trade patterns.

It recorded a high level in the Net Promoter Score (NPS), a customer
loyalty indicator that measures customer and dealer satisfaction,
reflecting customer satisfaction and quality of services, it said.

In the first half, the company continued to implement the global
contract lifecycle management (CLM) of APM Terminals, a step towards
enhancing digital transformation and unifying contract management
procedures, in a manner to raise transparency, enhance compliance,
and improve cooperation with customers, as well as accelerate the
completion of procedures and raising operational efficiency.

It successfully carried out a series of emergency preparedness and
response drills in cooperation with the relevant authorities,
including those on oil spills and bromine gas leaks, and received
positive evaluations by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

The company has successfully passed external audits, including safety
assessments conducted by certified auditors from the Aqaba Region
Authority, and assessments of the General Organization for Social
Security, as well as successfully passing a comprehensive security
audit conducted by Maersk in accordance with its global standards,
which reflects a commitment to maintaining highest international
health, safety and security standards.

Based on its long-term carbon footprint roadmap, the company
succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent,
compared to the 2022 baseline, including reducing emissions resulting
from electricity consumption by 75 percent.

Also during the first half of 2026, the company supported a number of
community initiatives and bolstered its strategic partnerships,
through cooperation with the Zaha Cultural Center in implementing
educational and environmental activities, and continuing programs to
support orphan children, in addition to its cooperation with the
Queen Rania Foundation to empower youth and enhance learning
opportunities.

It also supported the health sector in Aqaba city through providing
incubators and artificial respirators for newborns, thus enhancing
health care capabilities.

The company’s CEO, Jose Rueda, said operational performance during
the first half of 2026 reflects the strength of operational
capabilities, customer confidence, and the commitment of the
company’s staff.

He stressed a focus on reliable and highly efficient port services,
in parallel with enhancing safety and sustainability standards, and
creating a positive and sustainable impact on society.

The company is continuing to build on its performance and strengthen
Aqaba as a strategic gateway to Jordan and the region, in light of
the continuing developments in the regional trade movement, said
Rueda.
