Amman, August 11 (Petra) – The Senate’s Palestine Committee met on
Tuesday with Spanish Ambassador to Jordan José Luis Pardo Cuerdo to
discuss bilateral relations, as well as the latest developments in
the occupied Palestinian territories.

Committee Chairman Mazen Darwazeh pointed to the historical and
political bonds between Amman and Madrid, as well as the close
relations between the Hashemite and Spanish royal families.

He noted that the strategic partnership agreement signed by both
nations in June 2025 opened new avenues for cooperation across
political, economic, investment, security, and cultural sectors.

Darwazeh called for closer parliamentary and political coordination
on regional issues while commending Spain for recognizing the State
of Palestine, upholding international law, and supporting the
humanitarian mission of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine
Refugees (UNRWA).

The meeting also addressed ongoing Israeli escalation in the occupied
territories, including settlement expansion, land confiscation,
displacement, home demolitions, and settler attacks.

Darwazeh specifically cited recent developments in Arraba, in the
Jenin Governorate, including the repeal of the 2005 Disengagement Law
and the establishment of a new settlement, calling it “a continuation
of de facto policies that disregard international law.”

Darwazeh outlined Jordan’s efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah
II, to defend Palestinian rights, reject displacement and annexation,
and deliver humanitarian relief, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment
to maintaining the historic and legal status quo in Jerusalem under
the Hashemite Custodianship.

Reaffirming the shared positions between Spain and Jordan, Ambassador
Pardo pointed to Jordan and Spain’s commitment to a two-state
solution and regional stability. He called for uninterrupted
humanitarian relief to Gaza via Jordan and urged continued backing
for UNRWA.

Pardo praised King Abdullah II’s leadership and diplomacy, stressing
the importance of continued bilateral cooperation and parliamentary
exchanges to prop up efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive
peace in the reigon.
