Electricity Production in Oman Rises by 4.3%

Muscat,
11 Oct 2026 (ONA) — The total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman
increased by 4.3 percent by the end of August 2026, reaching 37,481.8
gigawatt-hours (GWh), compared to 35,935.3 GWh during the corresponding period
in 2025.

The
latest preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and
Information (NCSI) indicated that the Governorate of Muscat recorded the
highest growth rate in total electricity production at 204.8 percent, followed
by the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah at 44.1 percent, the Governorate of Al Wusta
at 8.4 percent, the Governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and A’Dhahirah
at 5.5 percent, and the Governorate of Dhofar at 4.6 percent.

In
contrast, the total electricity production in the Governorates of North A’Sharqiyah
and South A’Sharqiyah decreased by 16.4 percent, while the total electricity
production in the Governorate of Musandam stabilized at 376.0 GWh, with no
significant change compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

Regarding
net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and
Water Procurement Company and purchases by the Rural Areas Electricity Company
by region, the data clarified an increase of 4.6 percent by the end of August
2026, reaching 36,463.9 GWh, compared to 34,871.8 GWh during the corresponding
period in 2025.

The
Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest growth rate in net electricity
production, amounting to 204.4 percent, followed by the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah
at 44.2 percent, the Governorate of Al Wusta at 9.1 percent, the Governorate of
Dhofar at 7.6 percent, and the Governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al
Batinah, and A’Dhahirah at 5.4 percent.

Conversely,
net electricity production in the Governorates of North A’Sharqiyah and South A’Sharqiyah
declined by 16.6 percent, while net production in the Governorate of Musandam
reached 368.0 GWh, recording a change rate of 0.0 percent.

On
the water front, total production decreased by 3.5 percent by the end of August
2026, reaching 330,649.3 thousand cubic meters, compared to 342,709.7 thousand
cubic meters during the corresponding period in 2025.

At
the governorate level, water production in the Governorate of Muscat decreased
by 6.2 percent, dropping from 136,574.7 thousand cubic meters by the end of
August 2025 to 128,068.6 thousand cubic meters by the end of August 2026.

Water
production in other governorates also declined by 3.4 percent, reaching
149,899.6 thousand cubic meters, compared to 155,193.3 thousand cubic meters
during the corresponding period in 2025.

In
contrast, water production in the Governorate of Dhofar increased by 3.4
percent, reaching 52,681.2 thousand cubic meters during the period from January
to August 2026, compared to 50,941.7 thousand cubic meters.
