Tourism Minister: 34 Christian pilgrimage sites documented, Baptism Site platform to be launched

Amman, June 20 (Petra) – Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad
Hijazeensaid on Tuesday his ministry completed a survey and
documentation of 34 Christian pilgrimage sites in Jordan.

These have been categorized as primary and secondary for their
promotion within specialized religious and tourism programs, an
initiative to enhance Jordan’s position on the global religious
tourism map.

Hijazeen also said the ministry is to launch an online platform
dedicated to the Baptism Site, offering data and services to visitors
of Jordan as part of religious pilgrimage programs, and giving access
to information about the site and associated services, the ministry
said in a press release.

He said Jordan boasts a whole range of religious tourism offerings,
including internationally recognized Christian pilgrimage and Islamic
heritage sites, such as the shrines of the Prophet’s companions and
the Cave of the Seven Sleepers.

Sich diversity, he added, reinforces the Kingdom’s standing as a
unique religious and historical destination in the region.

Hijazeen also said the Tourism Ministry kicked off specialized
training programs for tour guides for Christian religious tourism and
Islamic heritage sites, in cooperation with the Jordan Tour Guides
Association.
