Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) – A United Nations spokesperson stated that the Secretary-General remains deeply concerned about the ongoing violence in the occupied West Bank, particularly the large-scale military operation in Jenin, which reports indicate has resulted in civilian casualties.
In his daily press briefing, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said the Secretary-General urges security forces to exercise maximum restraint and avoid the use of lethal force. He noted that the recent Israeli operation in Jenin Camp follows weeks of clashes between Palestinian forces and armed Palestinian groups.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that, as of last week, approximately 2,000 families had been displaced from the camp due to these clashes.
Meanwhile, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed grave concern about the safety and well-being of Palestinians in Jenin City and the refugee camp amidst the ongoing Israeli military operations.
