New York, June 18 (Petra) — The United Nations Security Council is
set to convene a public session later today to address the
humanitarian situation in Gaza under the agenda item “The Situation
in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question.”
The meeting was requested by the Council’s ten elected members and
has received backing from four of its five permanent members: China,
France, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency
Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher is scheduled to brief the Council on
the latest developments.
