UN Security Council unanimously adopts Resolution 2823 to protect peacekeepers

New York, June 23 (Petra) — The United Nations Security Council
adopted a resolution on Tuesday aimed at strengthening accountability
for attacks targeted against UN peacekeeping operations.

Resolution 2823 was adopted unanimously by all 15 members of the
Security Council and received co-sponsorship support from 140 UN
General Assembly member states.

The resolution emphasized that holding perpetrators accountable is
vital to deterring future attacks and ensuring the overall
operational effectiveness of peacekeeping missions. It further called
upon all concerned parties to cooperate fully with the United Nations
to facilitate the immediate identification, investigation, and
prosecution of those responsible for such acts without delay.
