Beirut, Jan. 4 (Petra) – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has accused the Israeli army of deliberately destroying UNIFIL property and essential infrastructure.
In a statement issued Saturday, UNIFIL reported: “This morning, peacekeepers witnessed an Israeli army bulldozer destroying a blue barrel marking the withdrawal line between Lebanon and Israel in Al-Labbouneh, as well as a watchtower belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces adjacent to a UNIFIL site in the area.”
The statement added, “The deliberate and direct destruction by the Israeli army of UNIFIL property and clearly identifiable infrastructure belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces constitutes a blatant violation of Resolution 1701 and international law.”
The statement continued: “We urge all parties to refrain from any actions, including the destruction of property and civilian infrastructure, that could jeopardize the cessation of hostilities.”
