Amman, Jan 19 (Petra) — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said Sunday 4,000 aid trucks, half of which loaded with food and flour, are ready to cross to the Gaza Strip, according to the agency’s website.
A ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel announced on Wednesday took effect today after more than 15 months of a bloody war that caused a humanitarian catastrophe and left widespread and unprecedented destruction.
The 42-day first phase of the deal starts with a ceasefire, withdrawal and redeployment of Israeli occupation forces outside populated areas, exchange of hostages, prisoners and the remains of the dead, return of internally displaced persons to their homes in Gaza, facilitate travel for patients and the wounded for treatment, intensify a safe and effective entry and distribution of humanitarian aid on a large scale throughout the Gaza Strip, according to an official statement by mediators.
