Amman, June 9 (Petra) — Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and UN
Women on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement to implement a
project, aimed at meeting the basic needs of Jordanian and Syrian
women affected by the Syrian crisis in Jordan.

Minister of Labor and Chairman of the VTC Board Khaled Bakkar,
sponsored the signing ceremony, according to a ministry statement.

The project aims to enhance women’s economic and social empowerment
by expanding access to quality vocational training and formal
employment opportunities in sustainable economic sectors, while
providing a supportive environment that enables beneficiaries to
acquire market-relevant skills and strengthen their productive
capacities.

VTC Acting Director General Raafat Sawafin and UN Women
Representative Nicolas Burniat signed the agreement, as part of joint
efforts to support women and girls in the most vulnerable communities
and equip them with the skills needed to integrate into the labor
market and increase their economic and social participation.

Under the agreement, the VTC will conduct training-needs assessments,
identify priority specializations, develop training programs, qualify
trainers, and provide the tools and materials required for training.

The corporation will also deliver theoretical and practical training
and award accredited certificates to participants, aimed to enhance
their opportunities for employment or the establishment of
income-generating projects.

Supported by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with
the Ministry of Social Development through its community development
centers, the 12-month project will target Jordanian and Syrian women
affected by the Syrian crisis through specialized training programs
tailored to labor market needs in the targeted areas.

On its goals, the VTC said the agreement aligns with its vision of
providing “high-quality” training and qualification opportunities in
support of the Economic Modernization Vision.

The step will also strengthen partnerships that contribute to
sustainable development and women’s economic and social empowerment.
