Amman, June 7 (Petra) – The National Clean-up Campaign, implemented
in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO), has launched an activity at Zaha Cultural
Centre (ZCC) in Amman’s Mustanada neighborhood.

The campaign, which saw participation from center volunteers and
members of the local community, aims to raise environmental awareness
and promote sustainability and public cleanliness.

This initiative coincides with World Environment Day, highlighting
the importance of community action in maintaining a clean and
sustainable environment.

Talking at the launching ceremony, Rania Sbeih, ZCC’s Executive
Director, emphasized the importance of the partnership with FAO in
implementing environmental and development projects.

She highlighted “Green Wheels” project, which supports establishment
of the first inclusive school for children with cerebral palsy in
Amman through the recycling of plastic containers and lids.

Sbeih also noted the role of the Zaha Volunteer Platform in
strengthening community engagement.

The campaign’s launch saw participation of center volunteers and
members of the local community.

For his part, FAO Representative in Jordan, Paul Obio, emphasized the
importance of the partnership with center in implementing
environmental and community projects and initiatives.

He noted the campaign comes within the framework of supporting
efforts, aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and encouraging
sustainable practices among various segments of society.

Following the opening remarks, participants were briefed on “Green
Roofs” project, implemented by the center in cooperation with the FAO
at Zaha Cultural Center in Amman’s Mustanada neighborhood.

On its goals, this project aims to harness unused spaces to become
productive green areas that contribute to supporting local women and
promoting urban agriculture and food security.

The event concluded with a field cleanup campaign in the center’s
vicinity, as plastic containers and lids were collected for use in
“Green Wheels” project, which reflects goals of the environmental
and community initiative.
