Amman, January 15 (Petra) — The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation confirmed on Wednesday that a ceasefire agreement has been signed to end the Israeli war on Gaza and a prisoner exchange deal.
US President-elect Donald Trump had also confirmed the deal, stating that the detainees will be released soon.
The development follows an announcement by Hamas that it had submitted its approval of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement to the mediators.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had previously described the agreement as “imminent.”
Hamas stated that its delegation, led by the movement’s leader Khalil al-Hayya, had communicated the approval to the mediators, Qatar and Egypt.
Two Palestinian sources close to the ongoing negotiations in Doha revealed that both Hamas and Islamic Jihad had agreed to the ceasefire and prisoner exchange terms.
One source confirmed to Agence France-Presse that “Hamas and Islamic Jihad informed the mediators of their approval of the final draft of the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange deal.
An Islamic Jihad official mentioned that the movement’s leadership had just concluded a meeting with a Hamas delegation in Doha regarding the ceasefire, noting that the views of both groups were aligned on the end of hostilities and exchange agreement.
