
Amman, Feb. 16 (Petra) – The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee affirmed Jordan’s “firm and unwavering” opposition to Gazans’ displacement to Jordan.
During a meeting Sunday with Azerbaijan Ambassador, Eldar Salimov, the committee’s head, MP Dina Bashir, said the “steadfast” Jordanian position towards the Palestinian cause is based on His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visions and keenness to fulfill the Kingdom’s national principles.
Noting justice of the Palestinian cause, Bashir voiced the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace by establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The MP also stressed the “strong” Jordanian-Azerbaijani ties, based on mutual respect and continuous cooperation in various fields, under the two countries’ leaderships.
Meanwhile, the committee’s members affirmed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship in preserving Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Additionally, the MPs stressed the need to continue financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.
On the bilateral level, the lawmakers pointed to the importance of the mutual agreements in strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the tourism, education, youth and energy fields.
Azerbaijani envoy stressed the “deep-rooted” bilateral relations, praising Jordan’s position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in delivering aid via air and land bridges and field hospitals in Gaza and West Bank.
The diplomat stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation and exchanging expertise.
