Inflation Rate Rises in Oman by
1.6 Percent
Muscat, 25 Jan 2026 (ONA) — The
general consumer price index in the Sultanate of Oman recorded an increase of
1.6 percent in December 2025 compared to the same month of 2024 (base year
2018). The average inflation for the period from January to December 2025 also
rose by 1 percent.
Data issued by the National
Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the category of
Miscellaneous Goods and Personal Services topped the list of increases,
recording a price rise of 10 percent. It was followed by the Transport category
at 2.8 percent, then the Restaurants and Hotels category at 2.6 percent, the
Furniture, Household Equipment, and Maintenance category at 2.4 percent, and
the Education category at 2.2 percent.
Prices also rose in the Food and
Non-Alcoholic Beverages category by 1.1 percent, the Clothing and Footwear
category by 0.2 percent, and the Health category by 0.1 percent.
Conversely, the Recreation and
Culture category recorded a price decrease of 0.1 percent, while prices in the
Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels category, the Tobacco
category, and the Communications category remained stable with no change.
As for the Food and Non-Alcoholic
Beverages category for December 2025 compared to the same month of 2024, prices
for Fish and Seafood rose by 6 percent, Fruits by 4 percent, Sugar, Jam, Honey,
and Confectionery by 3.5 percent, Milk, Cheese, and Eggs by 2.1 percent,
Non-Alcoholic Beverages by 0.9 percent, Meat by 0.8 percent, Bread, Cereals,
Oils, and Fats by 0.7 percent, and Food Products Not Elsewhere Classified by
0.4 percent. Meanwhile, Vegetable prices decreased by 5.8 percent.
A’Dhahirah Governorate recorded
the highest inflation rate increase by the end of December 2025 compared to the
same period of the previous year, with the index rising by 2.5 percent. The
inflation rate also increased in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate by 2.1 percent, in
the Governorates of Muscat and Al Buraimi by 1.7 percent, and in South Al
Batinah Governorate by 1.5 percent.
In the Governorates of South A’Sharqiyah
and Musandam, the rate of increase reached 1.1 percent, while the Governorates
of North A’Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah recorded an increase of 0.9 percent.
The rate also rose in the Governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar by 0.8 percent.
