Oman Participates in General
Assembly Meeting of Olympic Council of Asia in Tashkent
Tashkent, 26 Jan 2026 (ONA) — Represented
by Oman Olympic Committee, the Sultanate of Oman today took part in the 46th
meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), held in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.
Oman’s delegation was headed by
Abdullah Mohammed Bamkhalif, Secretary-General of Oman Olympic Committee.
The meeting saw the election of Sheikh Joaan
Hamad Al Thani as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, who
takes over as the 22nd head of the Olympic movement in the continent since
it held the first Asian multi-sport games in 1913.
The elections were held in the
presence of all representatives of Asian national Olympic committees and attended
by Dr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan,
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting also approved Qatar’s
hosting of the 47th General Assembly meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia in
2027, with the exact date to be determined in due course.
The meeting included the signing of
contracts to host the Asian Youth Games in 2029 in Tashkent and in 2031 in
Cambodia. It also discussed preparations for upcoming games, among them the Asian
Beach Games in Sanya city (China in 2026), the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts
Games in Saudi Arabia and the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
