Cables Lays Foundation Stone for Third Plant
Muscat,
14 Oct 2026 (ONA) — Oman Cables Industry celebrated the laying of the
foundation stone for its third manufacturing plant, with an investment
exceeding RO 10 million in Al Rusayl Industrial City.
The
event was held under the auspices of Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of
Energy and Minerals.
This
comes as part of its strategic investment program exceeding RO 15 million in
recent years, aimed at developing the next generation of industrial and
manufacturing capabilities in the Sultanate of Oman, and enhancing the
company’s capacity to keep pace with the growing needs of the energy and
infrastructure sectors in the Sultanate of Oman and the region.
The
third plant represents more than just an expansion of manufacturing capacity
for Oman Cables Industry; it constitutes an investment in the company’s future
manufacturing ecosystem through the deployment of artificial
intelligence-powered technologies to enhance safety, efficiency, and
operational sustainability, while focusing on developing Omani talent and
preparing national leaders.
The
project embodies Oman Cables Industry’s firm commitment to the Sultanate of
Oman and its support for the targets of “Oman Vision 2040” by
enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial sector and contributing to the
transition toward more efficient infrastructure with lower environmental
impact, in line with energy transition requirements.
The
third plant will contribute to developing the company’s advanced manufacturing
capabilities and building upon its established technical expertise.
As
an advanced industrial facility, the plant houses the first cable manufacturing
tower in the Sultanate of Oman and the first of its kind in Al Rusayl, standing
at a height of 42 meters, along with capabilities to handle cable drums
exceeding four meters in diameter and handling drum weights of up to 50 tons,
establishing a manufacturing system capable of keeping pace with increasing
demands in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The
design of the new plant is built on a smarter and more interconnected
industrial concept through the deployment of an integrated digital ecosystem
across various manufacturing stages.
This
ecosystem includes a manufacturing operations management system, AI-powered
predictive maintenance technologies, and AI-enhanced quality control systems,
allowing clearer visibility and greater control over production processes.
Additionally,
safety considerations are integrated into all stages of plant development, from
design through to operation, through AI-powered forklift safety systems,
real-time safety indicator monitoring and reporting, alongside the application
of lean manufacturing standards and (6S) methodologies.
Sustainability
forms an integral part of this approach, based on more than 50 initiatives in
energy efficiency and circular economy across company operations, supporting
its direction toward low-carbon manufacturing and solidifying sustainability
practices across various stages of its industrial operations.
This
investment places Omani talent at the core of its priorities, as the third
plant is expected to create more than 60 new job opportunities, alongside
developing technical, professional, and leadership skills, and preparing
national cadres to keep pace with rapid transformations in the industrial sector.
The
strategic partnership with Prysmian, the world-leading group in the cable
industry, provides broader opportunities for knowledge transfer and experience
sharing, benefiting from a global network of more than 30 research and
development centers. This contributes to employing the latest technologies and
global practices in local manufacturing operations, and empowering Omani
engineers, specialists, and promising leaders to acquire global expertise
starting from the Sultanate of Oman, contributing to shaping the future of the
industry at regional and global levels.
Eng.
Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, explained that the
expansion of Oman Cables Industry through the establishment of its third plant
represents a strategic investment in strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s
industrial capabilities to meet the growing needs of electricity grids and
infrastructure, as progress continues in executing solar energy, wind energy,
and green hydrogen projects, in parallel with urban and industrial expansion.
In
his statement, the Minister said that this project opens new horizons for
locally manufactured products to meet local market demand and compete in global
markets, noting that these investments are viewed as an opportunity to transform
growing demand into greater in-country value (ICV) through localizing
industrial capabilities and technologies and developing Omani talent.
He
added that linking industrial growth with clean energy, modern cities, and the
development of the industrial and logistics sectors will contribute to economic
diversification and achieving broader developmental benefits, supporting the
realization of “Oman Vision 2040” targets.
For
her part, Cinzia Farisè, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Oman Cables Industry,
stated that the energy and infrastructure ecosystem is undergoing rapid
transformations, keeping pace with the evolving role played by Oman Cables
Industry in this system. She confirmed that the company is moving steadily
toward expanding the scope of its operations from cable manufacturing to
providing more integrated solutions that combine products, technologies,
innovation, and expertise to meet growing needs in the energy and
infrastructure sectors.
She
explained that the third plant represents a major milestone in this journey, as
it enhances the company’s ability to meet customer needs, expand its presence
in regional markets, and solidify sustainable value for its partners,
shareholders, and the markets it serves.
The
ceremony included the signing of a structural element that will become part of
the third plant, symbolizing the beginning of this new phase in the company’s
journey.
With
industrial expertise spanning more than 40 years in the Sultanate of Oman, Oman
Cables Industry today combines a firmly established manufacturing base in the
Sultanate of Oman with a growing presence in the GCC markets, alongside its
industrial operations through Oman Aluminium Processing Industries in the
Sultanate of Oman and Associated Cables Private Limited in India.
Its
strategic partnership with Prysmian Group enhances its competitive capabilities
by combining its local manufacturing expertise and regional presence with the
latest technologies, knowledge, and global standards, thereby supporting its
capacity to innovate and develop advanced, sustainable solutions that meet
market needs in the Sultanate of Oman and the region.
