Abu Dhabi, April 15 (Petra) — The United Arab Emirates’ foreign ministry summoned Iraq’s chargé d’affaires Omar Abdulmajid Al-Obaidi and handed him a strongly worded protest note, condemning in the strongest terms what it described as ongoing terrorist attacks launched from Iraqi territory by Iran-aligned armed groups and militias.

According to the Emirates News Agency, the protest was lodged despite the announcement of a ceasefire, citing attacks that targeted several vital facilities in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in what the UAE described as a flagrant violation of their sovereignty and airspace and a clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter.

The protest note, delivered by Ahmed Juma Al Marashda, director of the Arab Affairs Department at the UAE foreign ministry, said the continued attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies against Gulf states and the wider region threaten regional stability and undermine international efforts to promote security.

The note also referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), co-sponsored by 136 countries, which calls for an immediate and unconditional halt to any provocation or threat against neighboring states, including through the use of proxies.

It stressed the importance of Iraq playing its role in strengthening security and stability in the region in a way that preserves its sovereignty and reinforces its position as a responsible and effective regional partner.
