Kabul, June 27 (QNA) – A 6-magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush mountain region in northeastern Afghanistan on Sunday.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) stated that the earthquake, which struck the mountainous region, occurred at a depth of 100 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
In August 2025, a 6-magnitude earthquake struck Kunar and Nangarhar provinces resulting in approximately 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injuries.
It is worth noting that Afghanistan is frequently struck by earthquakes. The northeast of the country experienced 12 earthquakes exceeding magnitude 7 in 1900.
In October 2023, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake, followed by a series of strong aftershocks, struck Herat province in western Afghanistan, killing more than 1,500 people and destroying or damaging more than 63,000 homes, according to United Nations estimates. (QNA)
