RSS Unveils JD186,000 Embezzlement Case

Amman, June 29 (Petra) — Internal control systems at the Royal
Scientific Society (RSS) uncovered an embezzlement case involving a
former employee, and the case was referred to the competent
authorities, RSS media spokesperson Raed Shawabkeh said on Monday.

The case involved a former employee who was convicted and sentenced
for embezzling JD186,000, Shawabkeh told Petra.

He said the RSS respects judicial rulings, and commended the
judiciary and security bodies for completing legal procedures.

Shawabkeh said the RSS formed an internal investigation committee,
reviewing the records and checks before reporting the case to
authorities for legal action.

It was an individual act by a former employee, who exploited his
position as an accountant on a project managed under the project’s
own financial and administrative regulations, but subject to the
oversight and supervision of the RSS, he said.

Investigations found that the employee forged a number of checks and
cashed them for his personal benefit over an extended period before
the RSS monitoring and oversight procedures detected the misconduct.
