Aqaba, June 30 (Petra) – Aqaba Water Company on Tuesday signed three
agreements worth about JD1 million to provide design, engineering
supervision and field survey services under a water loss reduction
programme funded by the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

The agreements aim to upgrade water infrastructure in the
governorates of Ma’an and Karak.

The first agreement covers the rehabilitation of Ma’an’s water
network, including restructuring the distribution system into zones,
upgrading the Al Tahouna pumping station and the Al Samna and Al
Tahouna reservoirs, and establishing a local SCADA control centre.

The project is expected to benefit about 45,000 residents and provide
832,000 cubic meters of water annually.

The second agreement covers water infrastructure upgrades in the Al
Lajoun Al Ghuwair and Al Samar/Ghor Al Safi systems in Karak,
including new reservoirs, transmission lines, a pumping station,
additional wells and a SCADA control centre.

The project is expected to reduce water losses by 1.3 million cubic
meters annually and increase water supply by 864,000 cubic meters per
year.

Both agreements were awarded to Dar Al Omran Infrastructure and
Environment Company.

The third agreement, awarded to Barium Contracting Company, covers a
comprehensive survey of around 14,000 subscribers in Ma’an to improve
billing efficiency, support remote meter reading, detect illegal
water use and help reduce water losses.
