Aqaba Public Transport Records 43.6% Jump in First-Half Ridership

Aqaba, July 5 (Petra) — The Aqaba Transport and Logistic Services
Company posted its strongest first-half performance on record after
carrying 911,000 passengers during the first six months of 2026, a
43.6% increase from the 634,000 passengers recorded during the same
period last year.

The company said the addition of 277,000 passengers marks the highest
first-half ridership since its establishment, highlighting the
growing reliance on public transport as Aqaba continues to expand
economically and urbanly.

Mohammad Abu Omar, Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors and
Commissioner for Investment at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone
Authority (ASEZA), attributed the milestone to the Authority’s
long-term strategy of building a modern, efficient public transport
network that supports the city’s development.

He said the steady growth in passenger numbers reflects ongoing
investments in service quality, infrastructure, and an integrated
business environment designed to meet the needs of residents,
workers, visitors, and investors alike.

Abu Omar added that ASEZA will continue backing projects that
strengthen the public transport sector, describing it as a key driver
of economic activity, tourism, and sustainable urban development
while contributing to a higher quality of life in Aqaba.

Chief Executive Officer Khaled Morsi Abu Abdullah said the record
results were achieved through continuous operational improvements,
better planning, and close monitoring of passenger demand. He noted
that one of the company’s biggest priorities has been maintaining
service standards despite the sharp increase in ridership.

Looking ahead, Abu Abdullah said the company will focus on enhancing
the passenger experience, improving service reliability, increasing
operational efficiency, and expanding the use of modern technologies
in line with international best practices for public transport.

He also credited the company’s workforce for the achievement, saying
the record performance reflects the dedication, professionalism, and
teamwork of employees across the organization. The company, he added,
will continue implementing development programs to support Aqaba’s
rapid growth and further improve public transport services.
