Amman, July 6 (Petra) – The Lower House’s Energy and Mineral
Resources Committee on Monday debated draft regulations to connect
renewable energy facilities to the electrical grid, exempting
renewable energy systems, and promoting energy conservation.

Committee Chair, MP Ayman Abu Hanieh, said members reviewed technical
and legislative regulations, after studying feedback from official
bodies, experts, and sector representatives to come up with a
legislative framework that is up-to-date with rapid developments in
the renewable energy sector.

The committee recommended flexible connection models, including
net-value systems, zero-export systems, and hybrid systems, as well
as reinstating net metering for the residential sector, he said.

It also proposed regulating energy storage systems as an independent
component, allowing for their installation, operation, and connection
according to specific guidelines, he added.

Hanieh said the recommendations included a time-based tariff and a
different mechanism for calculating grid service fees based on actual
grid usage as well as a regulated mechanism for surplus energy to
ensure fairness among subscribers and maintain the sector’s
sustainability.
