Ramtha, July 6 (Petra) – The Water Diplomacy Center at Jordan
University of Science and Technology (JUST) held a meeting with a
delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) to discuss a regional readiness program for climate
change adaptation in the Levant and Iraq.

The program aims to strengthen readiness to access climate finance,
build institutional capacity, and prepare investment projects that
support water security and climate resilience in Jordan, Iraq,
Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria.

The meeting, held alongside the second edition of the Water-Peace
Dialogue Series, comes as part of efforts to strengthen regional
cooperation in water resource management and under the Blue Peace
Middle East initiative, which uses water as a platform for dialogue,
trust-building and cooperation among countries in the region.

Participants from partner institutions in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and
Iraq discussed opportunities to expand regional cooperation and
develop joint investment tracks in climate adaptation and water
security.

They stressed the importance of knowledge exchange, regional
coordination and joint mechanisms to facilitate access to climate
finance, enhance water governance and build more resilient and
sustainable water systems.

The Blue Peace Middle East initiative is the first regional platform
of its kind bringing together Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Türkiye to
promote cooperation in transboundary water management.

The initiative seeks to improve water, food and energy security,
protect ecosystems under climate change and promote water as a tool
for cooperation, trust-building and peace rather than a potential
source of conflict.

The Water-Peace Dialogue Series serves as a regional platform
bringing together policymakers, experts, international organizations,
and academic institutions to discuss transboundary water issues,
exchange expertise, and support partnerships that develop innovative
and sustainable solutions to water and climate challenges.
