Amman, July 15 (Petra)– The Jordan Food and Drug Administration
(JFDA), in cooperation with security forces, has seized approximately
5 tonnes of unauthorized, counterfeit, and untraceable cosmetics
bearing global brand names, the regulatory body said on Wednesday.

The major enforcement operation targeted the primary supply chain of
these products, which were being promoted across dozens of social
media pages. Inspectors raided three retail shops and their
associated warehouses, identifying them as the main distribution hub.

The JFDA stated that the operation followed an extensive
investigation and data analysis of the offending social media pages,
alongside tracking shipping data from delivery companies used to
distribute the cosmetics to consumers.

According to the regulator, online sellers purchased large quantities
of these counterfeit goods at low prices to market them digitally.

By targeting the main source of the supply chain, the JFDA estimates
it has successfully disrupted approximately 70% of the supply of
counterfeit cosmetics flowing to online platforms in the country.

The authority added that investigations are ongoing to locate and
permanently shut down any remaining supply sources. The seized items
have been confiscated for destruction, three commercial facilities
have been sealed, and those involved have been referred to the public
prosecutor for legal action.
