New York, July 15 (Petra) – U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres
announced on Wednesday the appointment of Spanish Prime Minister
Pedro Sánchez as co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals
Advocates group, alongside Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
In a statement, Guterres stressed the urgent need to accelerate
progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
and welcomed Sánchez’s leadership in advancing the sustainable
development agenda.
The SDG Advocates group is made up of influential leaders who support
the Secretary-General in raising global ambition and mobilizing
action to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals.
Guterres also expressed his appreciation to former co-chair, Canadian
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for his service, while Mottley will
continue in her role as co-chair of the group.
