Jerash, July 20 (Petra) — A set of regulatory and monitoring
measures has been introduced in Jerash to enhance public safety and
protect the health of citizens and visitors during the Jerash
Festival, including the formation of two specialized committees to
oversee compliance with safety requirements and address begging.

The measures, announced by Jerash Governor Malik Khreisat, include
assigning one committee to monitor public safety issues at the
festival site and across the governorate, while another will focus on
combating begging and reducing the practice to help ensure a safe and
organized environment for visitors.

Khreisat told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that street vendors have
been prevented from displaying goods around the archaeological site,
particularly juices and plastic water bottles exposed to direct
sunlight, due to potential health concerns related to the impact of
heat on their contents.

He added that regulations also prohibit commercial establishments and
vendors from displaying products, especially those packed in plastic
containers, under direct sunlight. Inspection teams continue to
conduct field visits across markets, with particular focus on
restaurants, dairy shops, and food outlets.

The Public Safety Committee will carry out inspection campaigns at
the festival site to verify that displayed products meet approved
health standards, alongside ongoing monitoring of commercial
establishments across the governorate to ensure compliance with
public safety requirements.

Khreisat said authorities recently detained three individuals for
repeated violations of safety requirements after they failed to
address their violations despite being given opportunities to do so.
The measures taken against them included warnings, formal notices,
and financial guarantees before detention.

He added that 32 commercial establishments have received warnings for
violating health and public safety requirements, stressing that
inspection campaigns will continue to follow up on corrective
measures and take legal action against non-compliant businesses to
protect citizens and visitors and support the successful organization
of the Jerash Festival.
