DONGOLA, July 20, 2026 (SUNA) – Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Nowara Abu Mohamed Tahir, on Monday inspected a number of development and public service projects in Dongola, accompanied by Northern State Wali Lt. Gen. Abdelrahman Abdelhamid and senior state officials. The tour included the Sortoud Nile Water Station, a solar power plant, and the Kaptod Secondary Schools for boys and girls. Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, Director General of the Northern State Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development, told SUNA that rehabilitation work at the Sortoud Nile Water Station is nearing completion under the patronage of the State Wali. He said the station’s production capacity has been increased from 4,000 cubic meters to 10,000 cubic meters per day, enabling it to meet about 40% of Dongola’s water demand. Faqiri added that construction of the solar power plant is expected to be completed in October, with the facility set to generate 20 megawatts of electricity to support various sectors. He also said work on the Kaptod Secondary School buildings is progressing well and is scheduled for completion in September, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to implementing development and service projects across all localities in Northern State.BH/BH
