Zarqa, July 22 (Petra) – Zarqa Governorate is gearing to enhance its
public transport network with 3 new routes as part of the second
phase of the regular inter-governorate transport project, following
Cabinet’s approval.

This phase aims to operate 9 routes and 210 modern buses equipped
with intelligent transport systems, which would improve service
efficiency and enhance the commuting experience for citizens.

In remarks to “Petra,” Obadeh Ezz El-Din Abu Qamar, Director of the
Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) ‘s Zarqa office said the
project’s first phase, which featured operation of four main routes
linking Amman with Karak, Salt, Irbid, and Jerash achieved positive
results that contributed to the approval of the second phase and the
expansion of the project to cover nine new routes.

As for the nine new routes, a total of 210 buses will be operated,
in accordance with the modern scheduled transport system, which would
enhance connectivity between governorates and provide more efficient
and regular transportation services.

He said the LTRC signed an agreement to operate 42 medium-sized buses
on the Zarqa-Irbid route as part of the second phase, aiming to
improve service levels and increase efficiency of transportation
between the two governorates.

He noted the LTRC has completed the procedures for purchasing
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), while work continues on
installing them on the buses of the second phase.

This effort, he noted, provides e-payment systems and CCTV cameras
inside the buses, which enhances operational efficiency, safety
levels, and service monitoring, as well as offering the buses with
free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) service to improve the passenger
experience.
