Amman, July 27 (Petra) – The Higher Council for the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission signed
a memorandum of understanding on Monday to enhance cooperation to
ensure the right of the disabled to travel freely, independently, and
with dignity.

It focuses on developing the air transport system to ensure
accessibility of facilities, services, and information, and provide
reasonable accommodations on an equal basis with others, in
accordance with the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
No. (20) of 2017, the Civil Aviation Law, relevant international
agreements and standards, and commitments made by the Commission at
the 2025 World Summit on Disability.

The memo was inked by HRH Prince Mired bin Raad bin Zeid, Chief
Chamberlain and President of the Higher Council for the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities, and CARC Chairman of the Board of
Commissioners and CEO, Captain Daifallah Al-Farajat.

During a meeting, Prince Mired highlighted the importance of
inclusive tourism as a national investment that opens new horizons
for economic growth and enhances everyone’s access to the
opportunities offered by the tourism sector.

He said a lack of investment in adapting tourist destinations and
services not only deprives people with disabilities of their right to
travel and tourism, but also leads to the loss of economic, tourism,
and investment opportunities that could have contributed to the
sector’s growth and enhanced its competitiveness within the Kingdom.

The memo, he said, is a significant step towards developing policies
and procedures governing accessibility in civil aviation services and
improving the readiness of airports and service providers. This will
guarantee equal opportunities for people with disabilities in travel
and transport, and promote Jordan as an inclusive tourist destination
that meets international standards.

Al-Farajat said the memo aims to enhance institutional cooperation
between the two sides in developing policies regulating the rights of
air passengers with disabilities and people with limited mobility,
and promote the compliance of the civil aviation sector with
accessibility requirements and facilitation arrangements.
