Amman, Aug. 1 (Petra) – The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has signed an agreement with the Museum of the Bible to host the international exhibition, “Jordan: The Dawn of Christianity,” in Washington, D.C.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, and by Museum of the Bible President and CEO Carlos Campo during a ceremony in Washington.

Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, the exhibition marks a key step in Jordan’s efforts to showcase its rich Christian heritage to an international audience.

It highlights the Kingdom as one of Christianity’s earliest centres and home to some of the faith’s most significant historical and pilgrimage sites.

The exhibition will feature Jordan’s renowned Christian landmarks, including the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas), a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Jesus is believed to have been baptized by John the Baptist.

Other featured sites include Mukawir, Umm Qais, the ancient churches of Rehab, the ancient church of Aqaba considered among the world’s oldest churches as well as Umm ar-Rasas and Madaba, celebrated for their historic mosaics.

“Jordan: The Dawn of Christianity” has previously been exhibited at the Vatican and in Assisi, Italy, where it received broad international recognition.

Its presentation at the Museum of the Bible forms part of a wider international tour aimed at promoting Jordan’s religious and cultural heritage.

The exhibition will display a rare collection of archaeological artifacts and museum pieces tracing the history of Christianity in Jordan from its earliest beginnings to the present day.

The collection underscores the enduring Christian presence in the Kingdom and highlights Christianity’s lasting contribution to Jordan’s cultural identity, social fabric and historical legacy.
