Dollar Recovers, Yen Retains Gains After 0.2% DeclineSingapore, 4 Aug 2026 (ONA) — The US dollar index recovered today from its lowest level in a month and a half after the losses it incurred yesterday following intervention to buy the yen, while the yen maintained most of the gains it achieved as a result of the joint intervention by Tokyo and Washington last week. The yen in Asian trading was ‌down 0.2% at 157.55 per dollar, having hit a three-month high of 155.20 in the previous session, though it remained well above its 40-year low of 163.99 touched in July. The euro was steady against the yen near its highest level in more than eight months at 181.19 yen, while the British pound stood at 211.60 yen. The euro also held steady at $1.1508 after reaching a one-and-a-half-month high of $1.1559 in the previous session, while the British pound traded at $1.3425. The US dollar index recovered from its lowest level in a month and a half to reach 100 points. The Australian dollar rose by 0.3% to $0.7019, while the New Zealand dollar fell by 0.1% to $0.5867.
