Zarqa, Sept 5 (Petra) — Acting Governor of Zarqa Mohiuddin Al-Adwan
affirmed on Saturday that combating drug addiction is a shared
national and societal responsibility requiring integrated roles among
official institutions, civil society, families, schools, places of
worship, and media to protect the public, particularly youth, from
its devastating impacts.

Al-Adwan made his remarks during an awareness event titled “Take the
Initiative Because You Can,” organized by the Jordan Anti-Drugs
Society (TJADS) in cooperation with the Nabedh Wa Athar (Pulse and
Impact) Volunteer Team, Zarqa Comprehensive Health Center, the Zarqa
Heritage and Culture Association, and local community health
committees at the King Abdullah II Cultural Center in Zarqa.

Al-Adwan noted that the impact of narcotics extends beyond individual
physical health to threaten social security and stability, leading to
family breakdown, wasted human potential, higher crime rates, and
adverse economic effects.

He highlighted the core role of the Ministry of Interior and security
agencies in safeguarding societal peace through continuous law
enforcement operations targeting trafficking and distribution
networks, stressing that security efforts must be matched by
intensified preventive and educational campaigns across educational
and health sectors.

Al-Adwan commended the Public Security Directorate and the
Anti-Narcotics Department for their ongoing efforts in frustrating
smuggling attempts, apprehending dealers, and securing national
borders.

Director of Zarqa Culture Directorate Mohammad Al-Zoubi emphasized
the ministry’s commitment to hosting anti-drug educational
activities. He announced that the department will organize
specialized workshops in the coming months targeting tenth-grade and
high school students in coordination with security agencies.

Leader of the Nabedh Wa Athar Volunteer Team Haitham Shaaban called
on health institutions, youth centers, cultural clubs, and volunteer
groups to align their initiatives with the Jordanian Anti-Drugs
Society to build a unified community front against substance abuse.

The event featured an interactive lecture by TJADS president Mousa
Al-Tareefi on prevention strategies, alongside a performance by the
Bani Maarouf artistic troupe, concluding with a call for sustained
community partnerships to protect youth and promote social stability.
